      The Animation Process

It all starts with the creative concept.

With an animated video production, it is essential to know how the finished film is going to 'work' and look before we start the animation process.

It's like knitting: The time to amend the design of a woolly jumper is before you knit, rather than after you have a finished garment!

We treat animation in the same way - we focus our time and energy on the pre-production process, making sure you know exactly what you will get before we start any animation. This includes deciding on your intended audience, the type (is it a corporate animation video, commercial or internal project), and the duration.

At the concept stage, we might present you with some reference films or mood boards to help you visualise the concepts we have in mind for you.

One of our first questions will be 'What production value do you require?'

      Design & Script

As an animated video production company, we make sure that once you’re happy with the overall concept, we develop the script and the design. We offer a full-service production and, at this stage, we’ll take references from any animations that you like, combine them with your brand look and add a little sparkle. Voilà... we have some design slates for you!

      What is a Design Slate?

These are like 'spot checks' on how a key asset or a scene might look at any given point of the script.

Every project is different, but we may give you a few design options for feedback before we refine them further to your requirements. This ensures your final animation production is perfect for you.

      The Storyboard

The best way to have a clear dialogue about how your animation will function is to show it to you before we make it for you.

Our video animation production company calls this the storyboard process. Here we work on the finest details of your animation, we consider how everything will work on screen and design all the assets for the animation, laid out 'scene by scene' on paper for your feedback.

Storyboarding represents a significant amount of work for our designers, so can only happen once you are happy with the script and the design style, all considered in the previous production stage.

All of the assets have been designed and agreed upon at the storyboard stage and the voiceover script is now fully agreed upon too.

You can now choose your voiceover artist and music track from a selection that we recommend to you.

We are now ready to animate.

As you have already seen the storyboard, you have a good idea of how the animation will look and what will be said and shown. When you see the first cut of the animation the only surprise should be just how well it all works together!

We will take your feedback and action any changes required.

Whether that be a corporate animation video for training, or an animated commercial, an animated video can be a great way to get your audience engaged.

Animation allows us to beautifully tell your story in a visually engaging way. With animation we can bring to life content that might otherwise be dry and not engaging.

It’s different from standard live action video and can add character. You can also create your own unique style through illustration. That’s why it’s great to have an experienced video animation production company that can provide the skills to produce something high-quality that you can’t do yourself.

Our animation video production company offers you the complete package. As we guide you through each step making sure your requirements are met, we can ensure you walk away with a complete production that you’re fully satisfied with.

      Types of animations we offer

We offer two types of animated video, 2D animations and 3D animations. 2D animations are perfect for explainer videos, offering enhanced visualisation that can help audiences understand processes better.

3D animations require CAD software. It can be great for advertisements, showcasing depth and angles. It can be great to use for replacing real objects that you don’t have to hand. 3D animation isn’t always more expensive than 2D as it can be less complex.

      A2 Milk Explainer Video

Liquona produced two animated explainer videos for A2 Milk. The aim was to show the audience, who were healthcare professionals, research about the effects of two types of natural milk on people with lactose intolerance. The video was well received by the client and ended up featuring on BBC news.

      Mercy Ships Animated TV Advert

Mercy ships asked Liquona to produce an animated video for TV. As they are a non-for-profit organisation, they need donors to allow them to carry on working. We created an engaging advert to increase donations and encourage existing donors to become long term.

Our client was extremely impressed with the outcome. The animation managed to show the ship, volunteers, surgeries and vacancies in a short 30 second clip. Our client said that the video was produced in a professional manner and done in record time, on budget.

      • How much does animation cost?
You’ll typically pay in the low to mid-thousands for animation videos. However, we price our animation video production based on two variables, the duration and the complexity. The longer your animation is, the more scenes that have to be animated and illustrated. We have examples and price points to share, so please get in touch if you’d like this information.
      • Do I need to know the type of animation I’m looking for?
No, it’s best to start with your communications challenge. For example, arrive with a goal in mind such as ‘I want to explain how my service works’. We will then suggest the best route forward and share relevant examples and price points with you.
      • How do I brief Liquona to create my animation?
We have a briefing template we can share with you. It’s also really helpful if you can share any example videos you like the look of – this can be a really productive place to start. Also, please share any brand guidelines with us.
      • Can I add duration once production has started?
Absolutely, we’ll happily work with you to produce a longer animation where needed.
      • What does rendering mean?
This is when we ask the computer to create the final video file that you can use. For a simple 2D animation this takes a few hours to create. For a complex 3D animation it can take the computer many days to create. Fun fact: it would take one computer 400 years to render a Disney level animation like Moana!
